Artificial light is light that is generated artificially, in contrast to natural light such as daylight or moonlight.

Forms of artificial light include fire, oil and gas light (including candles), and electric light (carbon, incandescent, fluorescent, and LED).

Differences between Artificial Light and Daylight

Artificial light and daylight differ in the following ways:

• Artificial light is static in color and intensity, while daylight is dynamic.
• Not all colors are well represented in artificial light, while daylight has good color quality.
• Artificial light is usually hung from the ceiling, while daylight usually enters through a window.
• Artificial light is consistent, while daylight varies in quantity and type of light.

Using Artificial Light when Taking Passport Photos

Using artificial light in passport photo taking is not recommended as it can cause shadowing and uneven lighting.
