The cheeks are the fleshy parts on the sides of the face below the eyes and between the nose and ears. Cheeks play a role in communicating emotions, such as blushing when feeling embarrassed, which causes the cheeks to turn partly or entirely red. Extremely pale cheeks can be a sign of fainting.
A well-known disease where the cheeks are affected is mumps, which can cause significant swelling.
There are no specific rules regarding the cheeks in passport photo requirements. However, the face should be depicted naturally, without excessive makeup that colors the cheeks or trying to blush.
