Scowling and Passport Photos: What You Need to Know

Scowling refers to the act of looking angry or annoyed. Many people have a naturally scowling expression without actually being angry.

When you scowl, your eyebrows are drawn inward. The original purpose of these muscles is to protect the eyes from bright light. Another explanation is gravity. In some people, these muscles tend to hang lower during relaxation than in others, leading to a more scowling appearance.

Rules for Scowling on Passport Photos

Passport Photo requirements state that you must have a neutral facial expression. You must look directly at the camera with a neutral expression and a closed mouth.

Scowling is not allowed on passport photos. Your teeth, for example, should not be visible, and your eyebrows should not be raised or lowered.

Showing other emotions such as anger, fear, disgust, surprise, joy, or sadness on passport photos is also not allowed.
