The neck is the part of the body that connects the head to the torso, located on the backside. It is composed of seven cervical vertebrae and various muscles, including the upper part of the back muscles, neck muscles, and the muscles of the skull.
In contrast, the throat refers to the anterior part of the neck, running from the base of the skull to the upper chest. It contains several vital structures, such as the larynx, pharynx, and thyroid gland.
When it comes to taking passport photos, the neck is often visible from the side, although official rules do not require it to be visible.
As such, it may be partially covered by hair growth, such as a beard, or by accessories such as a necklace or scarf.
